rippling in song, their bodies- music.
I stood alone in the obscurity
and watched him materialize out of the throng.
He asked me to dance and for a while I forget,
a dance is not desire.
The sky is clear and brilliant,
the mountains- blinding.
This seems to be a common trend
I’m finding whenever he’s around.
We play, we smile, we laugh
and for a moment I forget,
joy is not a fortune.
The house is dark and flashing,
the floor blaring under our leaping feet.
I’m noticing how the earth is spinning,
so, I retreat into his arms.
He keeps me steady and for an instant I forget,
to hold is not to have.
Night air caresses my skin, hair,
my grinning face. The smoke can’t
keep my heart from bouncing off the walls
of this warm fading space and him.
For a second then and a while after, I forget,
a kiss is not love.
