Lily had taken off from work early, exhausted from the long hours that seemed to engulf her life as of late. She decided she would surprise him and cook a nice meal so they could relax together for once.
She wasn’t that surprised to find them, but it was enough for her to drop the nice bottle of red. Before she ran out she caught sight if her best friends face, it was mortified as if she just realized he and Lily were together.
Lily remembers and stirs her coffee. It had only been a month when she decided to confront Jolene, her wounds were still fresh but she needed to start stitching somewhere.
She is so caught up that she barley notices Jolene sit down across from her, and jumps at her ex best friends trembling voice. After enduring a wave of feverish apologies and confessions of self-loathing, it is Lily’s turn. She looks into the face she once knew, now marred with shame and sorrow.
“I forgive you”. Lily says.
She gets up and leaves without a response from a shell shocked Jolene.
