The 19 year-long hourglass
dropped into a thousand shards,
sand sprayed,
and I remember how the tears fell
like shrapnel.
But what were they to you?
Not enough to pick them up--
pick her up.
I suppose,
it was enough to leave her desperate.
But now, she no longer
answers my calls
or talks
about the weather.
Her son
is finally home
and it does not rain
in Southern California
anymore.
